The NYT and McCain
What in the world would prod a newspaper to run a story about John McCain's supposed relationship with a female lobbyist back in the 90's at this moment in time? Was it just to avoid being scooped by the New Republic which was also about to break this story? Or, does someone at the NYT's want Huckabee as the republican nominee?
Denials, anger from pundits on both sides of the aisle including attorney Bob Bennett, a democrat, who vetted McCain 12 years ago, heard these rumors and found nothing there.
Timing in everything. So what in the world is this all about?
From the comments, thanks Ron, Several news outlets are running the 1500 word rebuttal from the McCain campaign, emphasizing what the NYT's left out.

What the Times left out
Senator McCain has released a 1,500-word document outlining what his campaign calls "some of the facts that were provided to the New York Times but did not end up in the story." The document responds to the ethical window dressing of the Times story. Politico has posted the statement here.
