Hillary Clinton must be taking those polls which show her falling behind pretty seriously because she got her whole family out on the campaign trail today. Her daughter Chelsea joined her mother for breakfast at a Des Moines, Iowa restaurant as did Clinton's own mother. Neither one has been out campaigning until today.
Why does running for office require candidates to be photographed eating locally? Does eating locally make them seem more down to earth, more "just like us" approachable? Mrs. Clinton was reported to have ordered the the “Good Ol Iowa” omelette, a house specialty that includes cured ham, applewood bacon and shredded cheddar cheese. She then asked for tea. Chelsea order an egg white omelet while Mrs. Rodham had pancakes with a side of bacon.
The New York Times story has a photo of Hillary's fork in mid air, a string of cheese hanging down. The meal sounded good to me, but are we to believe that the three women really ate the whole meal or even wanted a big breakfast? And, if they did, wouldn't they be like the rest of us after a meal like that, ready for a morning nap? A big breakfast with ham, bacon, eggs, cheese and hey...look at the pile of toast on the plate. A mountain of toast.
It's as good a way to make sure everyone got a close up of Chelsea as anything I guess.
