The candidates on the Illinois republican state ticket pose for a group photo in Farina Illinois Saturday evening.
As I mentioned two posts down, I did not expect to see Topinka and company in Farina, I was there to support John Shimkus, but the early evening turned out fun. My impressions of this group, outside of their platforms which can be read by clicking the various links found in the three posts, was formed more by how they interacted with the crowd.
Judy was very natural when she spoke from the stage and when she stopped to talk with individuals. At no time did I see her try to hurry a conversation along and more importantly, she looked each person in the eye rather than focusing over the shoulder of that person, checking to see who else was around. Actually, each candidate was like that. No one was overly hearty in that phony politician way, they laughed easily, and seemed very enthused about what they were doing. Apart from that it was clear they all liked each other and did not begrudge the spotlight to anyone else.
Thanks to John and Deborah Milne for inviting us. And, one last thing. The Farina fire department put on the meal and did a tasty job of it. The meal line stretched for an hour at least, here some folks decided to wait to talk to the candidates and went for the food.
