We sat and watched yesterday's Tour de France yesterday and came to the conclusion those riders are just plain nuts. Either that or they are machines rather than mortal men. How do they race up a mountain for hours and then get up today and do it all over again? Unbelievable. One curiosity we wondered about was how Lance Armstrong could stand having his necklace swinging side to side across his body the whole way. That has to be annoying. While I don't understand all the strategy involved in the Tour, I do get caught up in the race, almost physically caught up. My heart starts to race along with the guys churning up those inclines and I scream at the spectators who line the narrow roadways and jump out at the riders. Why do they allow that, it seems so dangerous. Get behind the line for Pete's sake and stay there.
Dummocrats site is running periodic posts on the Tour de France with explanation of all the how's and whys. Good stuff. Here's a sample entitled, Top ten ways the Tour de France would be different if it was held in America. heh
