HB 2492

A so called "minor bill" passed the Illinois House this week.  HB 2492 makes it illegal for anyone to be given a fetal ultrasound without a doctor's orders.  It passed 76-32 with 6 voting "present".  The bill was put forth by strong pro-abortion advocate, Rosemary Mulligan (R-Park Ridge) who believes there is a health danger to the unborn child when exposed to ultrasound.  She was encouraged to submit the bill by Planned Parenthood and the Illinois State Medical Society.

What is not mentioned is the fact that many crisis pregnancy centers offer an ultra sound to women who come to them unsure of what to do, have an abortion or keep the baby or have the baby and put it up for adoption. So the question is, as Bryan Preston asks and answers:

Why would Planned Parenthood, an industry leader that aborts children and makes millions doing it, care a bit about the safety of children in the womb? Simple. It's hard to see an ultrasound and remain pro-choice. Once you see that your potentially aborted wad of tissues has fingers, toes, eyes and a nose and all the rest it becomes a person in your mind, and that makes you less likely to become one of Margaret Sanger's company's customers.

A minor bill my left foot.  This bill makes it easier to promote abortion or rather more difficult to convince mothers that they are actually carrying a child.  I am very happy to see that our state rep, Jay Hoffman (D-Collinsville) voted no, as did our neighboring rep, Ron Stephens (R-Highland).

Our neighbor to the east, Indiana, has recently passed a bill which serves as an interesting counterpoint to Illinois'.   Their legislation requires abortion providers to tell a woman she can see an ultrasound or listen to the heartbeat of her unborn child.  I guess only Illinois ultrasounds are considered dangerous.   Via Michelle Malkin
