School children in a Colorado school got a surprise the other day when the administrator leading the Pledge of Allegiance over the intercom changed some of the wording. The school counselor in charge of the daily recitation substituted "under your belief system" for under God. The school principal, who was away that day plans to send an apology to parents while the woman who changed the wording to make the pledge more PC explained thusly:
The change of words was "a spur-of-the-moment choice" meant to be more inclusive on the sixth anniversary of the Columbine High School shootings on Wednesday.
Not that his story isn't interesting in itself, but the web has brought out many clever takeoffs on how else to change the Pledge to make it more polically palatable. Nothing like humor to make a point on how incredibly dumb it was for the counselor to have done this. You can find some of the additional proposed changeds to the Pledge via View from the Foothills and commentary from Joe Gandelman.
